Ellie (Free verse)

The first person Ellie sees in the morning is the girl in the mirror.
She’s beautiful. The girl in the mirror.
Her hair flows golden, her brilliantly blue eyes are contrasted
with her dark lashes. She has rosy cheeks, the blush
bringing colour to her face. She smiles. Her small grin
bring a smile to Ellie’s face. Ellie goes on with her life,
Thinking that everyone sees the girl in the mirror.
Ellie is not the girl in the mirror.
That girl is mentally strong, intelligent, confident and mysterious.
Gorgeous.
She’s everything that Ellie has ever wanted to be.
Ellie tells herself to be that girl in the mirror.
But she knows that she can never be her.
People don’t see her.
They see Ellie trying to be her.
But Ellie is not good enough to stay as her.
Ellie is trying to be her.
They see her trying and trying.
Except for him.
He sees Ellie. Not her.
Just Ellie. He wonders why she tries to be her.
He only wants to see Ellie.
He loves Ellie more than he loves the girl in the mirror.
The girl in the mirror may be more beautiful,
More confident, more mysterious, more captivating.
But she is not Ellie.
She is not the wild, sneaky yet intelligent,
Ellie.
