Ode to the Lonely Star (Ode)

You are far away. Millions upon millions of miles and more,
Separate you from me. But we are alike, you and I.
More similarities are shared between us than I care to admit.
You’re bright on the outside, you stand out from the other stars.
You outshine the other stars simply because you are alone.
You wish you weren’t so far from the others. You wish you were closer.
But you know that can’t happen. They are different stars.
There is someone you love. There is someone I love.
We try to see the ones that we love, but we never will.
You love the sun. I love a man.
We can never see them because of what we’re like.
You’re a lonely star. I’m a lonely person.
But I praise you. When I look to you, up in the raven sky,
I smile. You remind me that we both are not alone.
When I see you, I thank you for being with me.
I thank you for being just like me.
For reminding me that I am not the only one of my kind.
Oh lonely star, you may be far from the others, but you are not far from me.
You and I both shine as much as we can in our loneliness.
For that, I thank you, lonely star.
